Enfield FC 2 - 1 Sawbridgeworth

Home | 25 August 2018 | Attendance: 76

The E’s got their first win of the season with a well earned victory over Sawbridgeworth.

In a game dominated by Enfield, we had to wait until the hour mark to get the lead our football deserved.

This could have been very different if the lads hadn’t been so wasteful in front on goal in the first half, although credit to the Sawbo ‘keeper for several good saves.

Firstly Dan Chambers could have opened his account for the season when a great cross field ball from Charlie Freeman evaded the Sawbo full back. Chambers took a good first touch, only to smash the ball straight at the keeper.

A few great crosses from Chambers and Bradbury on the wings went begging as the forwards just failed to get on the end of them. Then it was Bradbury who was guilty of a glaring miss. Great work by Ayo Odukaya led to him dispossessing the defender in a dangerous position. He played a great ball through to Bradbury who produced some fantastic individual skill to create what should have been the opener. However, the Sawbo ‘keeper spread himself well to produce a good save. Bradbury will have been disappointed though as he really should have scored. 0-0 at half time.

The 2nd half was much more even, although Sawbo did creat the best chances. Callum Lynskey producing a couple of fantastic saves to keep the scores level.

On the hour mark the deadlock was broken. Some fantastic passing between Bradbury and Barrett down the right led to the ball being cut back from the bye line by Bradbury to Chambers on the edge of the box and he made no mistake in burying the ball past the ‘keeper.

Sawbo now started to attack more and they got the equaliser with little over 15 mins to go. A deep cross evaded everyone and the striker smashed the ball past Lynskey.

Enfield however responded well and went on the hunt for a winner.

It did take until 3 minutes from time to get it. A good ball into the box caused a scramble and it was Chambers who reacted best to poke the ball home from close range.

A good performance from the lads and a well earned and deserved victory.

Man of the Match – Dan Chambers.
