Match Report

Enfield FC 2 – 2 Redbridge

(Extended match highlights in our Videos section)

The E’s got their first point on the board for the season with a very good display against a strong Redbridge side.

Welcoming back vice captain Joe Johnson from suspension, Enfield showed all the fight and energy that was missing on Saturday and completely dominated most of the game.

It did take until just before half time for the E’s to take the lead that their dominance deserved. Reece Barrett sliding the ball through to Clifford Newby-Harris who coolly bent the into the bottom corner for our first goal of the season.

The second half was much the same. Ayo Odukaya was a constant threat up front as he kept the Redbridge back four occupied.

Redbridge started to come into the game in the last 15 mins but Captain for the night Joe Johnson thought he had sealed the game with little over 10 mins to go, smashing home from close range after a goalmouth scramble.

The drama however wasn’t over. Straight from the restart, Redbridge grabbed a lifeline. A cross into the box caused issues and as the ball was headed back across goal, the forward was there at hand to head home. It was harsh on debutant Goalkeeper Callum Lynskey who had pulled off a string of impressive saves to keep Enfield in front. There was also a loud shout for offside as the Redbridge player who scored was virtually stood on the goal line but the officials waved away protests.

The Redbridge pressure paid off in the second minute of injury time. A long free kick into the crowded area caused problems and the bouncing ball was smashed home for the equaliser.

Very harsh on the E’s but a much better performance all round.

Next up is the big FA Cup clash with away to St Margaretsbury
on Sunday, 2pm ko
